Biography

Ian Mackenzie is a Canadian creative director and writer. His work includes mass, digital, mobile, social, direct and integrated campaigns for brands such as Honda, AB/InBev, Expedia, Cadbury, Taco Bell and McDonald’s. In his 15 years in the business, he has earned more than 100 national and international awards for creativity and effectiveness, including Cannes Lions (Gold, Silver, Bronze and multiple shortlists), One Show, Clios and multiple Webby Awards.

In 2014, he was ranked #1 Copywriter in Canada in Strategy Magazine’s Creative Report Card. Ian was also co-creator (with then-partner Derek Blais), and writer of the influential “Our Food. Your Questions.” radical transparency platform for McDonald’s. He has held creative posts at both independents (Canada’s GRIP Limited) and network agencies (Tribal DDB, KBS and FCB) – and was selected by DDB North America to receive direct and formal creative director training from industry legends Keith Reinhard, Amir Kassaei, Bob Scarpelli, Matt Eastwood and Lisa Bennett.

Currently, Ian leads the creative department of FCB/SIX, an agency that works for brands at the nexus of creativity, data and technology. His editorial writing on advertising and culture has appeared in Stimulant, Exclaim!, Applied Arts, Medium and Communication Arts. He has an Honours BA in visual and performing arts from the University of Toronto.
